Military Connected Students
ILTexas is committed to creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for military-connected students and families. The campus provides transition support for newly enrolled students, connects families with campus and community resources, and ensures military-connected students are identified and supported academically, socially, and emotionally. Through a designated campus military liaison, student ambassador support, newcomer orientation activities, and recognition events such as the Month of the Military Child, the campus works to ease transitions, build strong relationships, and honor the unique experiences and sacrifices of military families.

ILTexas Supports Military Connected Students and their families through the enrollment process. At ILTexas Keller K8, military-connected students are supported in their transition with our New Student Mentor Transition Program and PEIMS Support from the Campus Registrar.
Meet our Campus Registrar who supports Military Connected Students and their families at Keller K8:
Ms. Angelique Sanjuan serves as the campus Registrar and plays a vital role in supporting military-connected students and families through enrollment, records management, and ongoing campus communication. In her role, she is responsible for student registration, enrollment, attendance, records maintenance, and PEIMS compliance, ensuring that all student information is accurate, secure, and processed efficiently. She works closely with campus administration, counselors, teachers, and families to support smooth student transitions and maintain continuity of services for all students.
As part of the campus support team for the Purple Star Campus Designation initiative, Ms.Sanjuan helps ensure military-connected families experience a welcoming and streamlined transition into the school community. Through proactive communication and coordination, she assists families with enrollment procedures, records transfers, scheduling, and access to important campus information regarding academic programs, extracurricular activities, clubs, and student support services. Her attention to detail, responsiveness, and commitment to family engagement help create a positive and supportive experience for military-connected students during times of transition and mobility.

ILTexas offers robust Counseling and Support Services
Military Connected Students at Keller K8 have multiple levels of Counseling and Support Services available to them: On-site Counseling Services, Specialized Crisis Counseling, and Families in Transition Coordination
Each of these services falls under the ILTexas Counseling Department and are able to provide and/or connect our Military Connected Students and their families with additional resources within their local community.
Meet our Counselor who supports Military Connected Students for Keller K8:
With more than 14 years of experience in education, Luke Champlin brings extensive academic experience, strong communication skills, and a deep commitment to supporting military-connected students and families. Mr. Champlin is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified School Counselor, and certified Teacher in the State of Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Counseling. Throughout his career, Mr. Champlin has remained dedicated to public service rooted in compassion, collaboration, and student success.
As Military Liaison for the Purple Star Campus Designation initiative, I currently serve more than 100 military-connected students and their families. My experience supporting military-connected families has given me a strong understanding of the unique challenges associated with military life, including transitions, deployments, and student mobility. Serving as a central point of contact for military-connected families, I help ensure smooth student transitions, proactive communication, and access to campus and community resources and support services. Through intentional relationship-building, staff collaboration, newcomer support, and strong campus systems, I am committed to ensuring military-connected students and families feel welcome, connected, and supported both academically and socially while fostering a campus culture that honors military service and promotes belonging for all students.
Crisis Counseling and Support Services
ILTexas Keller K8 has a dedicated Crisis Counselor, which serves as an additional resource for our Military Connected Students. Our Crisis Counselor is able to identify unique needs and provide support to military connected students and their families to help them overcome barriers that interfere with learning through the use of assessment, counseling, consultation, and coordination of school and community resources. The Crisis Counselor utilizes knowledge of human behavior, social, emotional, and community systems to guide service delivery.

Lindsay Cherry is a licensed Master of Social Work has specialized experience in providing services to at risk youths, including Military Connected Students, with transition support. With her unique skillset, she has been successful in assisting military-connected students and their families in navigating their unique challenges and ensuring they are being offered appropriate services. Through her experience, she is equipped to help military-connected students with problems like communication,anxiety, stress, self-esteem, life transitions, behavioral issues, and mood.

Military Connected Students at ILTexas have multiple lines of support within the community. Within ILTexas in the DFW Area, we have a Family in Transition Coordinator who helps connect Military Connected Students and their families with community resources.
